Book News Annotation:

During the late 1970s, a collection of legal documents was assembled by borrowing the documents from their owners, the tribesmen themselves. The documents were reproduced and returned to their owners (with an additional copy). From this archive, 74 were selected for presentation in this volume, most pertaining to the 20th century (a few are from the 19th century), and most to land transactions and tribal boundaries. As the title page describes, this volume comprises the texts in Arabic, English translation and annotation, and a glossary of Islamic and tribal customary legal terms and maxims. Layish (emeritus, Hebrew U. of Jerusalem) provides introductory material, and his assistant, Musa Shawarhab, a linguistic essay. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
