Witnesses to Freedom is a moving account of the civil rights movement through the eyes of the young people involved. As I read Witnesses to Freedom, I noticed that, in each chapter, there is a quoted story by the subject of that chapter, containing valuable information and insight.

The depth and the meaning of the civil rights movement is sometimes "foggy" to the mind of a child or teen. Witnesses to Freedom helps answer some of the tough "why" and "how" questions. It also helps clarify the meaning of the civil rights movement and reveals what hate and anger can do to people.

I would personally recommend this book to anyone who is creating a book report for school. I rad the book for this purpose and was immediately drawn in and entertained by the book, helping me produce a wonderful book report.

Belinda Rochelle's Witnesses To Freedom creates the civil rights movement as it would have looked in a young mind. Witnesses To Freedom includes moving accounts from actual people involved in the movement. In each chapter of Rochelle's book, there are stories told by the person whose story is being told. I really love this book and will require my children to read it.
