Ivan Doig's first book of the Montana trilogy is American writing at it's finest. Doig has a way with words which paints a picture bringing the reader into the story. You feel part of the story, not just an observer. Great lesson on the settling of Montana and the hardships the first settlers encountered. This is a great place to start reading Ivan Doig. You will easily become a fan of Doig, perhaps the best living American author today.
