Publisher Comments:

The #1 New York Times bestselling follow-up to Eat, Pray, Love--an intimate and erudite celebration of love.

At the end of her memoir Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert fell in love with Felipe, a Brazilian living in Indonesia. The couple swore eternal love, but also swore (as skittish divorce survivors) never to marry. However, providence intervened in the form of a U.S. government ultimatum: get married, or Felipe could never enter America again. Told with Gilbert's trademark humor and intelligence, this fascinating meditation on compatibility and fidelity chronicles Gilbert's complex and sometimes frightening journey into second marriage, and will enthrall the millions of readers who made Eat, Pray, Love a number one bestseller.

In spite of the fact that Elizabeth Gilbert is a well-renowned and very well compensated author, she comes across so well as a regular person wondering about what marriage really means. I almost believe that she didn't know where her next hundred dollars would come from. Putting that aside, she does a good job of spacing out while wondering about the meaning of love, partnership or sexual fidelity.

While I was beguiled by her descriptions of the loveliness of Bali and her lover's home there, I wondered how Ms. Gilbert managed to reconcile her ideals and her reality.

For a self-professed non sociologist, non-psychologist, non marriage specialist, Elizabeth Gilbert has done a remarkable job of portraying the history of marriage and bringing us down for a safe landing at the present day marriage site. Woven as it is into her personal life story with Felipe and written in her inimitable style, Liz keeps us turning the pages as though the book were a thriller - well it is indeed a thrilling read.
