Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

From Jim Brown, author of the celebrated 24/7, comes a spine-tingling tale of a small town haunted by dark secrets.

When the citizens of Black Valley, a remote Oregon town, are terrorized by vicious, sadistic “Whitey” Dobbs–nicknamed for his shock of bone-white hair–five teenagers concoct a shiver-inducing act of revenge. But their plans to eliminate Whitey go terrifyingly awry, sending him on a rampage that plunges Black Valley into doom for generations to come. . . .

Review:

"[A] chill-o-rama that ventures deep into the world of lurid fantasy....Toward the end, the plot takes on an almost farcical quality...yet there is no doubt [Brown] knows his way around a nail-biter." Publishers Weekly

Review:

"[A]nother slightly over-the-top thriller that puts ordinarily people in an extraordinary situation....Creepy, spine-tingly, and look-over-your-shoulder suspenseful — a nice blend of thriller and horror." David Pitt, Booklist

Review:

"In his second time out, Brown's characters remain derivative dullards. And readers who don't care won't scare." Kirkus Reviews

Review:

"A classic page-turner....An intense, intelligent, fast-paced, first-rate thriller." Joe Weber, author of Dancing with the Dragon

Review:

"Black Valley is an incredible story — I'm still reeling." Douglas Preston, co-author of The Relic and The Cabinet of Curiosities

Terry Nelson, September 2, 2011 (view all comments by Terry Nelson)
Former NBC anchor in Eugene for 10 years, Jim Brown has written a Dean Koontz type of page turner about four young men who bury the town's bad boy alive, then years later strange things begin to happen in the town. They had put him in the coffin, but when they dug it up . . . well that is when things get spooky. A fast read, well paced and plotted with definite surprises.
