It is Anna Pigeon's job as U.S. National Park Service Ranger to help protect wild and lonely places from civilization's corrupting touch. Now duty has plunged her into a deadly mystery in the icy depths of Lake Superior — where an unaccounted-for extra corpse has inexplicably turned up among the drowned victims of a 70-year-old shipwreck.

About the Author

Navada Barr is the award-winning author of seven Anna Pigeon mysteries: Track of the Cat, A Superior Death, III Wind, Firestorm, Endangered Species, Blind Descent, and Liberty Falling. She lives in Mississippi and was most recent a ranger on the Natchez Trace Parkway

Anna Pigeon, park ranger and accidental sleuth, moves from the high desert of Texas (first novel in the series, Track of the Cat) to Isle Royal National Park, a watery island park in the Great Lakes. The novel is beautifully claustrophobic as a new body is found in an old shipwreck and Anna is left to dive down to the cold depths of Lake Superior to unravel the mystery. Nevada Barr furthers the development of her complex heroine significantly, all the while explosing us to the strange wild beauty of this national park. Barr does not let anyone off the hook here. A host of suspects - rangers, visiting scientists, concession workers - all have reasons to be implicated, but the final nerve-shattering truth is guaranteed to leave you gasping for breath. You can fall in love with Anna Pigeon in this book... smart, capable and sexy, Anna is the ranger we all want with us on a hike (or in case we need revenge). A Superior Death is brutal and sophisticated mystery... well worth reading.
