Staff Pick

Did we evolve into a space-faring people all on our own, or were we "uplifted" like the rest of the inhabitants of the galaxy? The answer seems to lie within our own sun, so an expedition is mounted to find the truth. But when a lost scout ship points to sabotage and murder, the stakes rather quickly escalate. The first of Brin's remarkable Uplift series, Sundiver is a book no sci-fi fan should go without.

No species has ever reached for the stars without the guidance of a patron — except perhaps mankind. Did some mysterious race begin the uplift of humanity aeons ago? Circling the sun, under the caverns of Mercury, Expedition Sundiver prepares for the most momentous voyage in history — a journey into the boiling inferno of the sun.
