Beautiful Bodiesby Laura Shaine Cunningham
Synopses & Reviews
Manhattan, the coldest night of the year — six best friends rush to attend a celebration. Blown by wind and snow, the women arrive flushed, each caught in midadventure....
Tonight's the night of nights — to rejoice in a new lover, leave an unfaithful husband, or decide to have a baby on one's own. These "six in the city" profes-sional women fight for their female choices. Sparks and zingers fly across the table....Love lives, secrets, and friendships go up in candle flame.
Who will win — the romantics or the realists? How can working women triumph in such trying times? While the cell phones chime and the biological clocks rewind, the friends enact a timeless ceremony. Here is our urban "friends-as-family" generation — Beautiful Bodies is a dazzling comedy of manners in the grand tradition of Dorothy Parker and Mary McCarthy.
It has been a while since an "all female novel" rose to the wit of classics penned by Dorothy Parker or Mary McCarthy, but Beautiful Bodies has critics placing Laura Shaine Cunningham in such esteemed and delightful company while extolling the numerous virtues and pleasures of her dazzling comedy of manners. Inventively structured to take place in one night, the novel introduces readers to six unforgettable women and then invites them along to a party where Australian wine flows, zingers spark across a table, and a timeless female ritual is reinvented. This witty, sophisticated take on single women's lives at the dawn of our uncertain twenty-first century is an effervescent cocktail "that goes down easy but is deceptively potent."
From the celebrated memoirist comes a hilarious and insightful new novel--a comedy of manners featuring six 30-something women navigating the perilous currents of single life in New York City.
