Synopses & ReviewsPublisher Comments:Chosen by the Lion is Linda Gregg's fourth collection, and her most eloquent, bespeaking a deeply personal reconciliation with the loss of love. Gregg is able to take common experience, to see it clearly, in all its mundane and ordinary complexity. But in her poetry, that experience is also explored in its affinity to the gods, to the ways of nature. The result is an experience that is firmly grounded in the ordinary, yet transformed spiritually. Comment on earlier collections of poetry by Linda Gregg: "Linda Gregg brings us back to poetry. She helps us see how we can once again engage the sublime and the tremendous, in our polluted and corrupt time. Her subject is loss and separation and the intense search for redemption, which she is able to realize through a profoundly honest, and moving, language. She is original and mysterious, one of the best poets in America."--Gerald Stern "An always observant eye, a disciplined musical sense, the true craftsman's knowledge of her material--these are rare and precioius gifts in a time of slack writing and lax perception. I read what she writes and I say, "This poet has seen these things."--William Arrowsmith Linda Gregg's other books of poetry include: Things and Flesh, The Sacraments of Desire, Alma, and Too Bright to See.
