Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Every spring as the wheat begins to ripen in Texas, harvesting crews gather, load trucks, trailers and enormous combines, and head to the southernmost wheat fields of America's great midwestern "breadbasket" to begin the annual harvest, an undertaking that will literally feed the world for the coming year.

One year Richard Higgs answered his own inner calling to be a part of that harvest. He signed on with a crew and traveled north with them, cutting the ripening wheat, from Texas, through Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas.

Here Higgs depicts that season of harvest in words and photographs.
