Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Olive Moore is the pseudonym of Constance Vaughn, a journalist and writer who was born at the turn of the century. The author of four books, she was part of the Bloomsbury literary scene of the 1930s.

Published in 1932, Fugue, Moore's last book, features themes that she was to grapple with all her life–the relationship between artistic and biological reproduction, exile and the, for her, puzzling dependence of women on men. A stylistic tour de force, it is the masterpiece of a writer who has rightly been compared to Djuna Barnes and Jean Rhys.
