two parts. The first draws from the last four decades of the 19th
century, which was dominated by realism inspired by Comte's
philosophy. The second part is devoted to the modernist movement
known as Young Poland, which emerged in Cracow in the 1890s inspired
by the native Romantic tradition and the writings of Schopenhauer and
Nietzsche. Nearly half of the some 100 selections are translated into
English here for the first time.
