Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Survival rates in cases of uveal melanoma and retinoblastoma - the leading intraocular malignancies in adults and children - may be high, but means of earlier diagnosis and improved treatment options are needed to preserve vision and prevent metastasis. This reference deals principally with the molecular biology and genetic factors which trigger and promote the two most common ocular tumours.

Book News Annotation:

Albert and Polans (both of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, U. of Wisconsin Medical School) present 23 chapters discussing the basic and clinical science related to eye tumors as well treatment options derived from genetic, biochemical, and immunological studies. Current clinical research is reported on and risk and prognostic factors are detailed. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

HI FRIENDS... I'm a Medical Oncologist, practicing since 1980 in Patagonia, Argentina (some 800 miles Southwest from Buenos Aires city, our Capital). This is an area of about 600.000 people, and I work both at 2 Hospitals, and on Private Practice. To be sincere, we have very limited knowledge of Ocular Oncology; this is why the primary and/or metastatic tumours into the eye or the orbit are generally referred to Buenos Aires... But, we might LEARN at least something about this important issue: "what" could be the diagnosis, "how" to confirm it, and if is mandatory or not to refer the patient... (it it costly and bothersome for him/her and the family...) THANKS A LOT, LET'S KEEP IN TOUCH. Tulio A. Cimerilli, MD, General Roca, Rio Negro, Northern Patagonia, ARGENTINA.
