Publisher Comments:

For this authoritative English-language edition, D. J. Enright has revised the late Terence Kilmartins acclaimed reworking of C. K. Scott Moncrieffs translation to take into account the new definitive French editions of À la recherche du temps perdu (the final volume of these new editions was published by the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade in 1989).

Synopsis:

Within a Budding Grove won the Prix Goncourt in 1919. In it the narrator moves from the childhood reminiscences of Swann's Way to adolescence. He meets Albertine, the girl on the bicycle with "that beauty spot on her cheek" with whom we visit Proust's Normandy seaside town of Balbec.
