Publisher Comments:

Deadeye Dick is Vonnegut's funny, chillingly satirical look at the death of innocence. Amid a true Vonnegutian host of horrors — a double murder, a fatal dose of radioactivity, a decapitation, an annihilation of a city by a neutron bomb — Rudy Waltz, a.k.a. Deadeye Dick, takes us along on a zany search for absolution and happiness. Here is a tale of crime and punishment that makes us rethink what we believe...and who we say we are.

Review:

"Vonnegut is...a zany but moral mad scientist." Time

Amid a true Vonnegutian host of horrors—a double murder, a fatal dose of radioactivity, a decapitation, an annihilation of a city by a neutron bomb—Rudy Waltz, aka Deadeye Dick, takes us along on a zany search for absolution and happiness. Here is a tale of crime and punishment that makes us rethink what we believe . . . and who we say we are.

About the Author

Kurt Vonnegut was a master of contemporary American literature. His black humor, satiric voice, and incomparable imagination first captured America's attention in The Sirens of Titan in 1959 and established him as "a true artist" with Cat's Cradle in 1963. He was, as Graham Greene declared, "one of the best living American writers.” Mr. Vonnegut passed away in April 2007.

Out of the 71 books I read in 2012, Deadeye Dick is one of my personal favorites. Though all of Vonnegut's novels poignantly reveal insight into the human psyche, Deadeye Dick did so in a way that was personally relevant to me. Whether you are a die-hard Vonnegut fan or a relative newcomer to his books, I cannot recommend this particular novel highly enough. Five stars!
