Publisher Comments:

With just enough detail — and color-coded links that send students to more detail if they need it — this is the rhetoric that tells students what they need to know and resists the temptation to tell them everything there is to know. Designed for easy reference — with menus, directories, and a combined glossary/index. The Third Edition has new chapters on academic writing, choosing genres, writing online, and choosing media, as well as new attention to multimodal writing. is available with a handbook, an anthology, or both — and all versions are now available as low-cost ebooks and in mobile-compatible formats for iPhones, Droids, and iPads.

Book News Annotation:

Aiming for an informative yet concise guide to writing, along the lines of a field guide for birds or flora, Bullock, Goggin, and Weinberg present their guide to help college students with all of their writing needs. There is a new chapter on writing in academic contexts and choosing genres, as well as new readings and reading strategies in regards to choosing media, designing text, incorporating images and sounds, and writing online. To facilitate use each part is color-coded and there are menus, directories, and a glossary/index to simply information searches. There are 66 chapters divided into seven parts, and section 8 is a handbook on editing. Parts included are: rhetorical situations, genres, processes, strategies, doing research, and media/design. There is also a thematic guide to the readings, a glossary, a list of revision symbols, directories to both MLA Style and APA style, a menu of readings, and a handbook menu.
