The third edition of this text for nonmajor undergraduates with a background in high school algebra continues to emphasize not only problem solving but also writing and critical thinking. History sections have been shortened, and more real-life problems and data are used throughout the text. Review problems, keyed to individual sections, have been added to end-of-chapter materials, and projects have been divided into two groups of research and math projects. A section on logic and puzzles is new, and the chapter on computers has been eliminated. The authors are affiliated with Ohlone College.
