Jesse Bullington: IMG Abash'd the Devil Stood

I don't believe in evil. It's a word I use, certainly, because words are shortcuts and we all take the short way round from time to time, but that's... Continue »

This book is amazing. One of her(Lucy Maud Montgomery) very best . You can read all 8 Anne books...but this one has it all in one breathtaking story. This tale is different from Anne's and should be made into a film. I say RUN don't walk to get this book and read it straight away. It is air and time travel from another world gone by.

This is easily Lucy Maude Montgomery's best book. Early feminist with fiery tongue and quick wit, she writes romance like she's writing comedy, everything done a mighty island from the corseted Victorian.

Even without this arched and dancing wonder of word construction of Montgomergy's, the plot would be plenty reason to pick up the book. Frumpy, dull Valancy takes a turn for the wild when she discovers she's got a year to live. It's a riot from society, where Valancy changes churches just to annoy her overbearing mother.

I read this in the church library as a little girl, and it was ever after, one of my most favorite books in the whole, wide, wondrous, book-filled world.
