This successful world history version of the popular Discovering series contains a multi-part pedagogical framework that guides students through the process of historical inquiry and explanation. The text emphasizes historical study as interpretation rather than memorization of data. The Third Edition integrates new documents and revised coverage throughout, while the comparative chapters contribute to a more thorough and balanced examination of global history. Each chapter is organized within the same pedagogical framework: The Problem, Background, The Method, The Evidence, Questions to Consider, and Epilogue.

William Bruce Wheeler (University of Tennessee) received his Ph.D from the University of Virginia in 1967. He is the co-author of Discovering the American Past, 6/e (Houghton Mifflin, 2007) and Discovering the Global Past, 3/e (Houghton Mifflin, 2007).Franklin M. Doeringer is currently professor of History and Asian Students at Lawrence University. His Ph.D. in East Asian Languages and Cultures is from Columbia University. He is a member of the Association for Asian Studies, the International Society for Chinese Philosophy, and the American Historical Association. His most recent award is a 1999 Lawrence Excellence in Teaching Award. In addition to his work on Discovering the Global Past, he has had numerous articles published in various publications, most recently, The Journal of Chinese Philosophy.Kenneth R. Curtis is professor of History at California State University in Long Beach. His specialization is modern East African history. He has published in the social and economic history of colonial East Africa with a particular focus on the production and marketing of coffee and the socio-political consequences of agrarian commercialization in the 20th century. Ken has taught World History at the general education, upper division and graduate levels, and is an active member of the World History Association. He also serves as Chief Faculty Consultant for the new Advanced Placement World History course.
