Publisher Comments:

In hardcover for the first time--on the tenth anniversary of its initial publication--the greatly admired and bestselling book about a young girl growing up in the Latino section of Chicago. Sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes deeply joyous, this novel depicts a new American landscape through its multiple characters.

MamaPurdy, July 13, 2008 (view all comments by MamaPurdy)
A true slice of Chicano culture captured in a free flowing captivating read that I find myself returning to every few years. Sandra Cisneros has tapped into the true spirt of growing up with two cultures and the trials and tribulations of adolesents. Having read a copy in English and then in Spanish I find that the message and themes of the book are never lost in translation. For anyone that has grown up with traditional Mexican values mingled with American customs this book is a true GEM. One of those books that will leave a lasting impression on you throughout your life.
