Malín Alegría is the author of Estrella's Quinceañera. She is an accomplished educator, dancer, and actress who has cowritten and performed in several stage plays. Ms. Alegría lives in San Francisco.

If you're thinking about planning your quince, or just wanting to know what one is, this book is a must read. Estrella is living in two worlds, her school life and home life are very different, which leads to much drama and even more humor. There is also a great romance with Speedy, who proves the saying "don't judge a book by it's cover." And don't worry if you hate Estrella (or "Star") at first, because I did too - but, by the end of the book you'll appreciate her a whole lot more.

i loved this book!!!! especially because i can picture where malin alegria sets the story because i used to live in san jose,ca where the story was set and she was very descriptive. this whole story is true anout really mexican families though
