Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Whereas Volume 1 of Endgame presents the problem of civilization, Volume 2 of this pivotal work illustrates our means of resistance. Incensed and hopeful, impassioned and lucid, Endgame leap-frogs the environmental movement's deadlock over our willingness to change our conduct, focusing instead on our ability to adapt to the impending ecological revolution.

Review:

"Written with passion, anger, frustration, hope, and even humor, this massive work is highly recommended." Library Journal

Review:

"Clearly he is passionate, but apparently the success of his earlier books has led to his writing only for those who already agree with him, rather than crafting a balanced discussion that allows readers to come to their own conclusions." Booklist

Book News Annotation:

Having set out the problem of civilization in the first volume, environmentalist Jensen here suggests what to do about it. Among his perspectives are identification, dams, psychopathology, fewer than Jesus had apostles, breaking down civilization, the crash, and the return of the salmon. He does not provide an index.

Mikey C, January 2, 2012 (view all comments by Mikey C)
As concern for the environment and the survival of the planet become more widespread and vital each day Derek Jensen presents an alternative to protests and attempting to work within the system. His solution goes well beyond the placebo of 50 Things You Can Do to Help the Planet. His premise, should you accept it, will demand of each of us a commitment to taking responsibility not only for our lives but for the lives of all living things. This book is a must read.
