Publisher Comments:

A collection of essential teachings and practices for cultivating mindfulness and compassion.

Synopsis:

This book offers short, stand-alone readings designed to help us cultivate compassion and awareness amid the challenges of daily living. More than a collection of thoughts for the day, Comfortable with Uncertainty offers a progressive program of spiritual study, leading the reader through essential concepts, themes, and practices on the Buddhist path.

Comfortable with Uncertainty does not assume prior knowledge of Buddhist thought or practice, making it a perfect introduction to Chödrön's teaching. It features the most essential and stirring passages from Chödrön's previous books, exploring topics such as lovingkindness, meditation, mindfulness, "nowness," letting go, and working with fear and other painful emotions. Through the course of this book, readers will learn practical methods for heightening awareness and overcoming habitual patterns that block compassion.

About the Author

Pema Chödrön is a leading exponent of teachings on meditation and how they apply to everyday life.

She is widely known for her charming and down-to-earth interpretation of Tibetan Buddhism for Western audiences. Her books include: Comfortable with Uncertainty , The Places that Scare You , Tonglen: The Path of Transformation , When Things Fall Apart , Start Where You Are , The Wisdom of No Escape

As Pema is a teacher, she herself studied under the meditation master Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and still considers herself very much a student. She currently studies under Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche (she recently wrote the forward to his book Turning the Mind Into an Ally) and Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, whose teachings form the basis of "The Shenpa Syndrome."

Wonderful, accessible teaching book. Terrific to have on the bedside table to read just before bed and let the information stew overnight!

What a wonderful introduction to Buddhist principles. Eastern thought put into terms we westerners can relate to. Not watering it down at all but helping us to find the path of compassion for ourselves and others.
