Publisher Comments:

This translation of "Romeo and Juliet" into contemporary English--alongside the original text--has modernized the difficult passages and expressions which used to make Shakespeare's language a challenge. (Plays/Drama)

Synopsis:

Taking the mystery out of Shakespeare - not the magic: This translation of ROMEO AND JULIET into contemporary English - alongside the original text - has modernized the difficult passages and expressions which used to make Shakespeare's language a challenge. This unique translation is not a literal-minded prose version. On the contrary, it retains the feel and the rhythm of the original, letting the reader experience the play in the same enjoyable way an Elizabethan audience did. The text is immediately clear to today's readers, making those tedious footnotes unnecessary. A glossary of place names and mythological references is included.

This is the best translation I have come across as an English teacher. It is especially good for my lower-level kids. It isn't crowded with explanations or footnotes- it just cuts right to the story and sticks to it. Great stuff! My school has used the books so often that they are falling apart!
