Book News Annotation:

Akers, a noted screenwriter and lifetime member of the Writers Guild of America, offers this guide to writing a screenplay that will read well and attract the attention of producers, agents and filmmakers. The author focuses on identifying the flaws that make a screenplay hard to read, such as picking the wrong main character, choosing an uninteresting title or even not giving bad guys a decent "bad guy speech." Tips on the physical act of writing are given as well, and the author provides practical information for novices on how the industry actually reads and processes unsolicited screenplays. Synopsis:

A lifetime member of the Writer's Guild of America who has had three feature films produced from his screenplays, Akers offers beginning writers the tools they need to get their screenplay noticed.

Don't be put off by the title -- this book is incredibly helpful to anyone who's staring at their first draft, wondering how and where to start working it into something that doesn't suck.
