Condition Notes

New York: The Vanguard Press, 1944. 1st Edition 191pp. Fully bound in beige cloth with brown dangling man device blind stamped to front board and brown lettering blind stamped to spine; top edge stained brown. Light soiling along bottom edge of cloth, three small round light stains on rear board, slight cant to spine. Previous owner's name written in black ink on front pastedown, there is marginalia & underlining in thin blue & black ink on eleven pages between pages 9-30 and there are about twelve more instances sprinkled throughout the book which is otherwise internally clean; some yellowing to page extremeties. Original issue, unclipped dust jacket shows some minor soiling to back panel; head and foot of spine panel are a little rubbed; a 1/2 inch open tear shows at bottom right of the front panel and the front flap's crease is a little rubbed; dust jacket also shows some chipping at extremeties and a few creases appear at top of rear panel. Overall a fair copy of this scarce first edtion with a number of mostly minor defects that are in no way disheartening. JW/dsr
