Publisher Comments:

The narrator of The Zahir is a bestselling novelist who lives in Paris and enjoys all the privileges money and celebrity bring. His wife of ten years, Esther, is a war correspondent who has disappeared along with a friend, Mikhail, who may or may not be her lover.

Was Esther kidnapped, murdered, or did she simply escape a marriage that left her unfulfilled? The narrator doesn't have any answers, but he has plenty of questions of his own. Then one day Mikhail finds the narrator and promises to reunite him with his wife. In his attempt to recapture a lost love, the narrator discovers something unexpected about himself.

A breath taking peace of art.. it made me concentrate on the small simple things in my daily life..
the concept of searching for love after a truama isnt an easy something to put on paper, and Paulo did it perfectly..
The book reflects our sorrows, our wonders and takes us to a place where love and loyalty still exist.
It gave me this power to reach for help, not to be ashamed of my past no matter how bad or good it was, to reach out for poeple even if they were strangers actually the more stranger they are the better, and i was shocked 'cause i've never noticed that people always want to reach out for someone as well but theres always this ice wall that keeps us apart.

this book touched me in a way i thought only a human or an animal could touch . i read it at a time when i was the lowest in my life, i would say at the brink of leaving everything and running away. i am talking about december last year, but after i read this book not once but again and again, i learnt that its ok to feel totally blue, and all that you think is happiness might change, so one day u wake up thinking, who am i ? what am i here for ? and what am i doing? great insight into a husband - wife relation, i could relate to esthers feelings, a bruised wife who leaves her love to pursue her dreams, and whose husband onlt returns to her after he kills his ego and realises her worth.
ps: most men have an ego that ruins their happiness. i wonder why ego in any relationship.

excellent book, very well written, and best the reader can visualise the entire scene. my favorite being the cafe at paris, the opening.
