V Puti is a wonderful book for second-year students or for those who have gone beyond that long ago and need a great review book. The authors WANT you to learn Russian and put NO obstacles in your way either! Their textbook as well as workbook are so complementary and the exercises are to the point and there is no try to throw in a trick question to make one feel stupid as I have actually seen in other 2nd year texts!

You also need to know that there are 4 CDs for this set that you can easily order by going to the publisher's site. They are reasonably priced and the Russian speaking is top-notch, clear and concise. On the internet, there are many pages of material with native speakers talking about various topics: themselves, love, work, life in Russia and so on. There are BOTH written and video materials that, after you have downloaded all of them, you are left to wonder why they did not sell these materials to you on a DVD. It takes a bit of work to download as well as to name all of the material on the web site.

Personally, what I liked most about this particular set for 2nd year learners is that the materials are not so "hokey" as I all too often see in other Russian language books. The vocabulary is direct, clear and not leaning on such formal tenets that it is stodgy and uninteresting. In a way, the Russian material in this set is "alive" as well as open to a lot of play as well as real learning.

All in all, the book, workbook, CDs, and material from the web add up to a very comprehensive package for the 2nd year Russian language student. You won't get bored and you will definitely WANT to learn.
