Tulia Rose has left New York for Europe, looking for inspiration for her next novel. She didnt expect to discover romance, but after meeting a mysterious sidewalk artist on the streets of Paris, she finds herself falling headfirst in love with a man she barely knows. Her research---and her affair---take her through the great art capitals of the Renaissance, and her novel begins to take shape. It will tell the story of the painter Raphael and his own secret lover, but where has the idea come from? And who really is the man she has fallen in love with? When her novel is finished, will their story end as well?

Alternating between contemporary and historical Italy, The Sidewalk Artist follows two parallel, intertwined romances, offering a unique view of the creative force that has inspired artists and writers for generations.

"A fantasia of a double tale skimming through the art capitals of Europe with double muses, double love pursuits, double Raphaels, even double authors, a tale dripping with idealized romantic settings, mystery, art, and a touch of magic, The Sidewalk Artist will keep readers wondering what is real and what is artifice--as fine paintings always do."
--Susan Vreeland, author of Girl in Hyacinth Blue
"The Sidewalk Artist is an inventive tale, beautifully and skillfully told. It is a story that swiftly sweeps the reader up into two intricate and compelling worlds, and does not let go until the very last word. This is a very special book."

--Diane Haeger, author of The Ruby Ring

"An enchanting story of love and art, bringing to life the passion that inspires both." --James McKean, author of Quattrocento

"A beautifully written book with a magical love story."

--Roberta Gellis, author of Lecrezia Borgia and the Mother of All Poisons

"A deliciously dreamlike tale of modern love and Renaissance romance"

--Jeanne Kalogridis, author of The Borgia Bride

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book at first – never having heard of either of the co-authors and not having read any reviews. I try not to read other peoples thoughts on books before I read it myself. I like having an untainted view and not have someone else’s conclusions in my head.

I was hooked from the very first page and found the book nearly impossible to put down. I think, at one time or another, every girl has wished they could be in Tulia Rose’s shoes and travel to Paris and Italy alone, meet a handsome artist and fall in love (and if the truth be told, I fell in love with Raffaello, too). Through Tulia’s sidewalk artist, we learn about Raphael, whom I’m sure we have all heard of, but don’t know much about. We hear the love story of love ago which in some ways mirrors the love story between Tulia and the artist. As she learns from Raffaello, the struggling writer finds her muse and begins to write again. The way the authors go back and forth from present day to the early 1500’s is clever and delightful and isn’t the least confusing. On top of all that, the book had me in tears, which isn’t an easy feat.

I can easily say that this is one of the best books I’ve ever read and it’s among the top five books I’ve read this year already. You don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy this book. In fact, I suspect that by reading this book, you’ll become more interested in the past and the wonderful stories it has to offer.
