The Mother's Almanac was given to me shortly after the birth of my first child. Three children and seventeen years later, this book remains a constant source of encouragement, wisdom and creative inspiration for my family. Written with a great deal of compassion and experience, topics include: pregnancy, breastfeeding, behavior, positive reinforcement, facilitating independence thru problem solving, the arts, creativity and capabilities. There are even recipes... how could a parent not love this book. (Note: there is an LDS book on the market with a similar name, but it is quite different.)

I absolutely hated this book. Not only does it tell you basically to ignore your kids for your husband and that breastfeeding is okay but only if you can't formula-feed, but the attitude of the writers is, "We know better than you, you're going to listen to us or your kids will fail in life." This is the first book review I've written that wasn't raving about the book, and I'm heavily against this book and its outdated information.

Creative, fun approach [make that "survival guide"] for real moms with lively children. The story about Jake is worth the price of the book--how does a guy with paint cans for feet get little tykes to wake up in their own beds?
