Publisher Comments:

Some zombies are raised. Others must be put down. Just ask Anita Blake.

Before now, she would have considered them merely off-putting, never dangerous. Before now, she had never heard of any of them causing human beings to perish in agony. But that's all changed.

Micah's estranged father lies dying, rotting away inside from some strange ailment that has his doctors whispering about “zombie disease.”

Anita makes her living off of zombies — but these aren't the kind she knows so well. These creatures hunt in daylight, and are as fast and strong as vampires. If they bite you, you become just like them. And round and round it goes…

Where will it stop?

Even Anita Blake doesn't know.

Overall I really liked Affliction. The action was definitely there and Anita didn't seem as indecisive as she has in the last few books. The only part that was a bit dull was the first few pages where she is explaining details about her secretary at Animators Inc. All that information about her looks etc. was pretty pointless. Like the author wasn't sure how to start off the book.

The wild and crazy sex scenes were at a minimum, thankfully. I still ended up skipping over those sections as her previous books (along with a lot of other paranormal romances I have read) have made those types of scenes extremely boring to me.

They no longer add to the overall storyline and strengthen the bond between characters for me. Especially in Anita's situation where she is doing it with many men that she loves and those she just likes. There doesn't seem to be much of a line with what she will do in bed with either group of guys. So I can't get into those parts of the books, as I really don't care for one of her men over the others.

The only relationship that I have always liked was that between her and Edward. So I'm hoping the next book will explore Edwards wedding, and I'd also like to see the first monster hunt for Peter (Edward's soon to be step-son). Is Laurell going to write about it int he next book? Or release it as a short story? Or skip over it altogether?

But back to the book at hand. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

This is Anita Blake, back at her finest. When Micah's father is struck down with a mysterious "zombie disease," Anita, Micah, and Nathaniel rush to the family's side. There are some family secrets revealed that support Anita's own type of relationships and, of course, a dangerous foe who must be stopped before Micah's father dies. The mystery, search, and contacts with the bad guys are thrilling and disturbing. Edward comes out to play, and Anita's interaction with the police is just as important as the familial and sexual content. While some of her last outings have focused more on the "Amour" and its actions, in this novel, like KISS THE DEAD, Ms. Hamilton has offered a more balanced approach to her storytelling. As always, I gulped down the book in just over a day and can't wait to see more of Anita Blake!
