Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

A new trade release of the hugely popular book club series by Mike Thaler and Jared Lee. These fun-filled chapter books mix school, monsters, and common kid problems with hilarious results.

The kids have to perform in the talent show just because mean Mrs. Green says so! Everyone will have to show a talent for exactly one minute — in front of the whole school and their parents! Starring in the talent show from the Black Lagoon would give any kid stage fright - but with a little luck this performance might just turn out to be fun!

Synopsis:

Take another trip to the Black Lagoon. This time all the kids have to perform in the talent show because mean Mrs. Green says so. The kids have to perform a talent for exactly a minute---in front of the whole school and their parents! SCARY! Too bad, you best talent is squirting milk from your nose. Starring in the talent show from the Black Lagoon will give any kid stage FRIGHT! But when the kids start performing, they realize how much fun it is and how talented they really are.

About the Author

Mike Thaler was born in Los Angeles in 1936. After moving to New York City, he started his professional career drawing cartoons for adults in 1960. He is an award-winning author and illustrator and has been called “one of the most creative people in childrens literature.” Mike currently lives in Canby, Oregon.

Jared Lee has illustrated more than 100 books for young readers. Read a Great Book, January 7, 2010 (view all comments by Read a Great Book)
My students love reading books from this series. The boys love all of the "gross" humor; "I can touch the tip of my nose with the end of my tongue. But Freddy can pick his nose." It is filled with many beginning reader decodable words and site words. However, it does not look like a "little kids" book because it has a table of contents with "real" chapters.
