This is a very informative book, with a wealth of illustrations and pictures. Not only does it go into the fashion of the time and the interweaving of different cultures into the fashion of the day, but also goes into the history of the people. With this information the author speculates on trends from the upper to lower classes. The only draw back to this book is the intense cross referencing that you have to do yourself, not only within the book, but with the other books by this author (which I do not have). If you are interested in "why" people wore what they did, this is a good buy.
