As parents already know, Beginning Reader books are often very repetitive and boring, and many such books drive adults crazy as their children start learning to read out loud (because, let's face it people... they're our kids and we are not going to escape unscathed from this phase). But Captain Underpants is different! It's so much fun to listen to (and to read by yourself... when nobody is looking). Plus, with the "Flip-O-Ramas," the kids will have a lot to keep them occupied! You'll probably have to get all the books in this series, and, before you know it, your kids will be reading Middle Readers all by themselves!

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Harold and George are two mischievous fourth graders who have created their own comic book hero, Captain Underpants. Prone to playing pranks, the boys hypnotize their school principal into becoming their crime-fighting creation and, naturally, things get out of hand — the principal escapes and begins roaming the streets in his underwear. Will the boys be able to get things back under control?

Review:

"Pilkey plays with words and pictures, providing great entertainment. The story is immediately engaging....This book will fly off the shelves." School Library Journal

Review:

"There'll be no silence in the library once readers get hold of this somewhat classier alternative to Barf-o-Rama books and their crude ilk." Kirkus Reviews

Synopsis:

He used to be Principal Krupp, but now he's the crime-fighting, wedgie-dodging Captain Underpants. Make way for the only superhero wacky enough to tackle the evil Dr. Diaper. Illustrations.

The "Captain Underpants" books are ones that parents probably find annoying, juvenile, and ridiculous, whereas young boys likely find absolutely hilarious. That's certainly the case in my household. What boys from ages 4 to 7 wouldn't like books where evil talking toilets come to life, the hero shoots underwear briefs, and other bathroom-related jokes abound? I gave this five stars not because I personally find it very good, but because my boys do, and if it gets them interested in reading, then it's very good.
