Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

This book is chronological account of their coverage, both in selections of text of their transcripts, along with photos, that documents the uncovering of this compex story. Including studies done in the past predicting just such a tragedy, the path of the hurricane, and the consequences of the flooding and destruction.

Book News Annotation:

This chronicle of the first two weeks of the Hurricane Katrina disaster combines photojournalism, visual and textual material from CNN's website, and transcripts from the network's broadcast news reports and on-air interviews. The book's treatment of the disaster generally mirrors the what was broadcast on the news network as the disaster unfolded, with dramatic coverage of destruction, human misery, heroic rescues, and inescapable anger at government neglect; relatively superficial discussion of underlying socioeconomic issues; and near total neglect of the long-term political battles being fought by people in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast hoping to reconstruct their lives in the face of greedy development interests and allied political opportunists. CNN will be donating all of its royalties from the book to the American Red Cross Katrina Relief Effort, and the publisher will match the donation.
