Synopsis:Jim Allen’s zest for machinery started with things that floated. He became a soldier-seaman in the closing years of the Vietnam War, training to operate and repair U.S. Army watercraft. An ASE Certified Master Technician for most of the next 20 years, he followed that up by a few years as an Off-Highway Driving Instructor, working seasonally for Land Rover. He filled in the off time as a freelance automotive journalist and has been doing that full-time since. You can add part-time farmer to that resume for the past six years. He lives on a small farm in Ohio these days, continues to write for 4x4, truck, and automobile magazines, and still loves four-wheeling.
