Elektra and Wolverine: The Redeemerby Greg Rucka and Yoshitaka Amano
Synopses & Reviews
For the mercenary and enigmatic assassin Elektra Natchios, it was to be a standard night's work: to make death happen. The target: a wealthy and powerful scientist. The price: eight million dollars for a clean hit — no witnesses.
When the target's teenaged daughter, Avery, stumbles onto the murder at the critical moment, Elektra knows the girl must be taken out at all costs. But for the assassin still haunted by the pain of seeing her own father's death, taking out a girl eerily reminiscent of herself proves to be more difficult than expected — especially after Logan, the mutant known as Wolverine, is hired to protect the key witness.
Enticed into the job by a slick government agent, Logan must keep the girl safe in exchange for answers he hopes will illuminate his clouded past.
The two supremely skilled fighters face off in the streets of New York over Avery's fate, each with different emotional stakes in a deadly game of intrigue. In Avery, Elektra must face a disturbing reminder of her past and present lives. For Logan, the girl represents the key to a history he must recover. When Avery unveils a mysterious secret of her own, the stage is set for an unforgettably haunting grand finale.
"Rucka breathes a shocking degree of reality into a most unreal situation....Amano's art grants Elektra an almost alien appearance, adding to her mystique and the air of menace she exudes. The sketchiness of the art conveys lithe movement quite well, but it also adds a surreal tone to the action." Don MacPherson, TheFourthRail.com
"There's an odd tension here between Rucka's text — which seems to want a very down-to-earth tone and has taken away much of Elektra's mystique to that end — and Amano's stylised art. In its own right, it's excellent, atmospheric artwork. (Grade: A-)" X-Reviews, TheXaxis.com
"Nerve-jolting." Washington Times
"Smartly written, beautifully illustrated — and a perfect example of Rucka's insight into character. Finally, a book that's not afraid to put two sai straight into Wolverine's chest. And twist." Brad Meltzer, author of The Millionaires
Haunted by her own father's death, Elektra finds that killing her latest target's daughter ? the only witness to the murder ? is more difficult than expected, especially after Wolverine is hired to protect the girl.
Stunning illustrations from Final Fantasy designer Amano complement Rucka's story of unique contrast in Marvel's first illustrated prose graphic novel--a story of an assassination gone wrong. Full color.
