Willingham, a public historian whose great-grandparents settled in Long Creek Valley in eastern Oregon, discusses community building in the area in the late-nineteenth century, how the community changed, and what the experiences of its inhabitants were. He considers cultural, ethnic, and demographic characteristics through a variety of sources including reports, records, and Grant County newspapers, and traces early settlements, those in the 1870s, growth and town building during the 1880s and 1890s, the second wave of settlement from 1890 to 1910, and social and economic changes up to 1920.
