Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Now in paperback, a debut novel about a zombie who yearns for a better life and ends up falling in love — with a human.

R” is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. He doesn’t enjoy killing people; he enjoys riding escalators and listening to Frank Sinatra. He is a little different from his fellow Dead. Wandering the ruins of civilization in search of food, R meets a girl. Her name is Julie and she is the opposite of everything he knows — warm and bright and very much alive, Julie is a blast of color in a dreary gray landscape, she is more than just meat, and something in R begins to shift. He finds he doesn’t want to eat Julie, although she looks delicious. He wants to protect her, no matter what the consequences. This choice is a spark in the grass. It breaks the rules and defies logic, but R is no longer content with life in the grave. He wants to breathe again, he wants to live, and Julie wants to help him. But their grim, rotting world won’t change without a fight... Not just another zombie novel, Warm Bodies is funny, scary, and deeply moving.

Synopsis:

R is a young man with an existential crisis--he is a zombie. He shuffles through an America destroyed by war, social collapse, and the mindless hunger of his undead comrades, but he craves something more than blood and brains. He can speak just a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. He has no memories, noidentity, and no pulse, but he has dreams.

After experiencing a teenage boy's memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and stragely sweet relationship with the victim's human girlfriend. Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His decision to protect her will transform not only R, but his fellow Dead, and perhaps their whole lifeless world.

Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies is about being alive, being dead, and the blurry line in between.

Warm bodies is a brilliantly written romance, comedy and thriller novel. Isaac Marion really pulls off this zombie love story with such an elegant style of writting. Marion has this almost poetic, comedic way of describing the things that are suppose to be ghory about zombies. I was captured by the unique way this book describes what happens to the zombies after they eat human flesh. It totally was not what I would steriotypically expect of zombies. Without ruining the book for those who have not read it, it is the effect of what happens to the zombies after they eat that so brilliantly leaves them possibly vulnerable to love itself. A zombie in love, who would have thought. Isaac Marion did and he pulled of an amazing debut. You will love this book!

To anyone who likes to read science fiction, horror, or romance: Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion is all of these things and it is fantastic! It's a zombie-romance told from the point of view of the zombie. Such a creative twist and incredibly well-written. I haven't even finished it and I would already recommend it to pretty much anyone who likes to read. Props to Isaac Marion for an amazing first novel! Can't wait to see what's next :-)
