Publisher Comments:

DR. DAVID PLATT, President of the International Mission Board, is deeply devoted to Christ and His Word. David’s first love in ministry is making disciples, sharing, showing, and teaching God’s Word in everyday life. He has traveled extensively to serve alongside church leaders throughout the United States and around the world.

A life-long learner, David has earned two undergraduate and three advanced degrees.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (A.B.J.) from the University of Georgia, and a Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Theology (Th.M) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  He previously served at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary as Dean of Chapel and Assistant Professor of Expository Preaching and Apologetics, Staff Evangelist at Edgewater Baptist Church in New Orleans, and eight years as the Senior Pastor of The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, AL. David has written several books, Radical, Radical Together, Follow Me and most recently Counter Culture (to be released February 2015).

David founded Radical (Radical.net), a ministry devoted to serving churches and disseminating disciple-making resources toward the end that the gospel might be made known in all nations.

David and his wife Heather have four children, Caleb, Joshua, Mara Ruth, and Isaiah.

Synopsis:

With passionate storytelling and convincing biblical analysis, a pastor and motivator calls Christ's followers to become radical: live the gospel in ways that are true, filled with promise, and ultimately world changing.

Synopsis:

WHAT IS JESUS WORTH TO YOU?

It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily...

BUT WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO LIVES LIKE THAT? DO YOU?

In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.

Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment — a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Synopsis:

IS JESUS WORTH THIS TO YOU?

"Do you believe that Jesus is worth abandoning everything for? Do you believe him enough to obey him and to follow him wherever he leads, even when the crowds in our culture--maybe even our churches--turn the other way?"

In Radical, David Platt invites you to encounter what Jesus actually said about being his disciple, and then obey what you have heard. He challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated a God-centered gospel to fit our human-centered preferences. With passionate storytelling and convicting biblical analysis, Platt calls into question a host of comfortable notions that are common among Christ's followers today. Then he proposes a radical response: live the gospel in ways that are true, filled with promise, and ultimately world changing.

If you're a questioning, new, or part-time Christian, this book is not for you. Or maybe it is. It's going to challenge you, make you mad, tell you why everything you're doing is wrong, and make you question your faith. But it's also going to inspire you to action, remind you of God's pure purpose, give you the tools to living a more Christ-centered life, and encourage you of your ability to do more in this world. I truly believe more Christians, including leaders - ESPECIALLY leaders - need to get a copy of this book and read it cover to cover. And then read it cover to cover again. We've become "disinfected" by creating a faith that conforms to our comfortable American lives. *Radical* tells us how to become uncomfortable for the glory of God. This is a book that I will continue to struggle with, but that I will keep reading over and over.

I received a complimentary copy of Radical by David Platt from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Company for the preceding review. However, this arrangement in no way influenced my honest opinion of the book.
