Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Dedicated to my mother, She did her best. Joe Matt's comics are famous for their savage character assassination of the unsavory protagonist, Joe Matt. Described as Philip Roth for the younger set, FAIR WEATHER looks back to a golden weekend in Joe's 1970s suburban childhood. Young Joe Matt is a selfish, whiny child who steals from stores, takes advantage of his friends, threatens to burn his mother's house down, and bullies those weaker than himself. The story centers on a fairground, a sunny summer weekend, a pile of comic books and a "fair weather friend." Joe Matt has been quick to correct assumptions about the title: " FAIR WEATHER refers to me. I'm a real jerk." Completely unsentimental and strangely endearing, FAIR WEATHER continues the American tradition of hilarious and idiosyncratic self-exhibitionism.

Synopsis:

For over ten years Joe Matt has been notorious in cult circles for the embarrassing frankness with which he reveals his distressing habits and predilections. Utterly shameless and completely self-absorbed, Joe Matt writes with an exhibitionists enthusiasm for his favorite subject, himself.

In his new graphic novel, Fair Weather, Joe examines his 1970s suburban childhood. In a surprisingly tasteful and thoughtful memoir young Joe Matt is a selfish child who steals from stores, takes advantage of his friends, threatens to burn his mothers house down, teases those weaker than himself, and reveals himself to be a fairly normal child. Completely unsentimental and strangely kind of endearing, Fair Weather continues the American tradition of hilarious self-exhibitionism.

Synopsis:

In this new graphic novel, Joe examines his 1970s suburban childhood.

About the Author

Joe Matt writes the legendary comic book Peepshow; an unflattering, although not strictly inaccurate, autobiography. Matt was born in 1963 in Philadelphia where evidently he never learned the meaning of shame.
