Recommended, with caveats. I have very mixed feelings about this movie. Some excellent performances, and a much meatier movie than first meets the eye. But I had to get thru the first 15 minutes to start appreciating it. Sorry, but I'm not a big fan of what passes for 'comedy' these days. Dysfunctional relationships, cursing, forced intimacy, stereotypes, cliches, and political correctness ruin many a recent movie for me. I'm not Pollyanna, but I also don't need to expose myself to any more tokens tearing each other down. That said, the movie starts getting some welcome reality as the stick-figure characters get some flesh & start taking on life. What could have become a set-piece soap (my god, we've got a deaf gay, a black gay, a pregnant daughter with no dad in sight, a bitchy mom with breast cancer, the young bitchy daughter, the uptight fiancee, the laid-back dope-smoking younger brother, the strong-silent oldest son, the huggy dad, the little girl with glasses, ... ), starts exploring some of the deeper currents of these lives, in subtle unfolding. ... Only to be ruined, for me, by an extended ending where everyone lives happily ever after ... The movie could have ended earlier, on an open-ended note, and there is even a brief black-out transition, which would have been a better ending, for me. See it for yourself.
