Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

A uniquely concise book for surveys of the Bible, FROM ADAM TO ARMAGEDDON, 5th Edition offers a clear and readily accessible introduction to the Bible. Reflective of the typical mainstream methods and analyses of contemporary academic religious studies, this book offers your students an even-handed look at both the grand gestures and key nuances of the Bible's text and history, encouraging them to develop their own critical appreciations of the book.

Book News Annotation:

Despite the fact that the Bible informs the majority of Western literature and is a significant influence on many aspects of Western history, many undergraduates have never seen a Bible outside of a bureau drawer in a hotel room. White (San Jose State U.) and Wilson (Emory U.) give an overview of the content of each book, giving its historical contexts, its relevance to the development of the Judeo- Christian tradition, and its relationships to other books. The 11 chapters (including one double-sized chapter on the Synoptic Gospels) include study questions, suggested readings (updated for this edition), and maps. The publisher also provides a related web site.
