Peter and the Shadow Thieves Cover

Staff Pick

A perfect adventure for a lazy summer day, Peter and the Shadow Thieves is Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson's thrilling follow-up to Peter and the Starcatchers. The new book is every bit as clever and exciting, as it sweeps us from the fantasia of Neverland into the cold fog of Victorian London, introducing even more unforgettable characters along the way.

Publisher Comments:

In this riveting and adventure-packed follow-up to Peter and the Starcatchers, we discover Peter leaving the relative safety of Mollusk Island — along with his trusted companion Tinker Bell — for the cold, damp streets of London. On a difficult journey across the sea, he and Tink discover the dark and deadly, slithering part-man/part-creature Lord Ombra. It seems that the dreaded Ombra has a variety of mysterious powers including the ability to make shadows disappear. When Peter reaches London, he sets out to find the indomitable Molly. Together they must combat Ombra?s terrible forces to both protect the Starcatchers and the treasured starstuff and most importantly to rescue Molly?s mother from the clutches of evil.

Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have done it again — written a compulsively readable, impossible-to-put-down tale that will delight readers of all ages.

Review:

"[T]wo veteran writers for adults do not disappoint....[A]tmospheric backdrops...a deliciously creepy villain who steals souls from shadows. Readers will relish the chance to further explore the backstory of a favorite childhood tale..." Booklist

Review:

"Breathless chases and near-death experiences....This should appeal to fantasy and adventure fans alike." School Library Journal

It is not often that the sequel is even better- and that is the case here! The book held the attention of my 9 year old- begging me to read "just one more chapter" every night. What a wonderful adventure. Enjoy.

Peter and the Shadow Thieves

If you have ever dreamt about pirates, flight or strong friendships then peter and the Shadow thieves is a book for you. The story takes place on a semi-deserted island in the middle of the sea, the Neverland. The only people that inhabit this island are the savages, the lost boys, and a pirate ships crew, a few mermaids, and Peter. Peter one day leaves to London to warn a friend, Molly, of a grave danger that involves her father Leonard Aster, Lord Ombra and Jenna the maid in a very strange way. Peter determined to find his friend crosses the sea to find that Ombra has already kidnapped Molly’s mother, reluctantly Peter gets to Molly before Ombra. Both of them then start a quest to find Leonard before the Others,
In their actioned packed novels Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have created a beginning to the classical story of Peter Pan. They have nearly finished giving us the details as to how Peter’s life began. The authors describe a different group of characters in each chapter and seem to support each group for different reasons. This story is trying to tell us not to underestimate true friendships as well as extreme determination.
This is on overall great book that is as suspenseful in the beginning as in the end. It is a must read and deserves a place on your bookshelf. Peter and the Shadow Thieves will interest young readers as well as adults and it will stay around as long as the classic is present. In my opinion the authors have achieved their goals in creating a beginning to Peter pan but at the same time have created an adventure of it’s own. I highly recommend this book; my only regret is that the end could have contained more information.
Here is a preview of what awaits; “where are you going ` asked James `To pay the pirates a visit` Peter announced `I’ve got a delivery to make` he held out an oozing, overripe mango.” Who would imagine this as the being the start to such a dangerous adventure? “You want to experience cold Mister palmer, perhaps a visit with our self esteemed guest, the one what travels in the cabin next to mine, the one who don’t come out except at night would you like to meet him, Mister Palmer? Want to spend a few minutes alone with him? ` `NO` said Palmer with a new level of terror in his eyes.” This is the first time we realize just how dangerous the villain in this story is. Even those who work with him are scared.

Peter and the Shadow Thieves caught the attention of every sence in my body. When Peter goes to Lonon on board the La Fontame, he is caught in a world of scandle and treachery alike. However, finding refuge with Molly and her friend George after Molly's house is invaded and her mother is captured, brings Peter to a sence of uneasyness. When the mysterious Lord Ombra starts chasing them, attention is drawn to the Return at Stonehenge, and Molly's fathers safety. Darkness is close to winning, but does it?
Anyone will like this book because it just pushes you to the limit and if you believe that the first books are always better, think again.
