About the Author
Researcher and author Larry P. Mahan documented five years of extensive research in his self-published book, In Search of Large Trees, which includes 100 color photos of notable tree specimens from central and southern Illinois, information for identifying the different tree species, and chronicles Mahans personal experiences during his research. He has been featured in numerous newspaper articles including such publications as the Springfield State Journal Register and the Jacksonville Journal-Courier.
Larry Mahan holds a bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University, Macomb and a Master's degree from the University of Illinois, Springfield and recently retired from the teaching profession with 50 years of service. His wife, Donna, a native of southern Illinois, and an alumnus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, has also retired from teaching in the Springfield area.
