Publisher Comments:

Thirteen-year-old DaIne has always had a knack with animals, but it's not until she's forced to leave home that she realizes it's more than a knack — it's magic. With this wild magic, not only can Daine speak to animals, but also she can make them obey her. Daine takes a job handling horses for the Queen's Riders, where she meets the master mage Numair and becomes his student.

Under Numair's guidance, Daine explores the scope of her magic. But she begins to sense other beings too: immortals. These bloodthirsty monsters have been imprisoned in the Divine Realms for the past four hundred years, but now someone has broken the barrier. It's up to Daine and her friends to defend their world from an immortal attack.

Dalne has been forced to leave her home at a young age, but manages to get a job handling the horses for the Queen's Riders. She possesses magic which allows her to communicate and control animals. Dalne learns to better manage her magic with the help of a master mage.

This book was fantastic in such a surprising way. I originally read this series in High school a few years back and fell in love with Tamora Pierce's writing style.I believe many may feel upset about the romance involved in the series due to the age gap between the characters (I know I did at first). If it were to have taken place in this day and age, there would be jail time involved. If you think about the time period in which the story occurs, however, it was a commonplace situation.

5/5 Stars
This is a great fantasy novel about a strong female protagonist. I would definitely recommend this novel since it is the beginning of one of my favorite series.

Tamora Pierce is one of my favourite authors, and The Immortals is my favourite quartet. Wild Magic introduces us to a new set of characters living in Tortall and brings back the characters from her previous quartet, Song of the Lioness. The writing is spectacular, as always, and the plot is fast-paced, and enthralling. After reading Wild Magic I couldn't wait to read the rest of the quartet, and see what else happens to Daine, the teenager who can communicate with animals. This is one book I couldn't set down until it was over.

Wild Magic introduces us to Daine, who has a special talent for communicating with animals that has landed her in deep, deep trouble on more than one occasion. Fortunately, she falls in with the warriors of Tortall, and begins to learn to control her gift with the help of Numair, a charming and powerful wizard. Daine's sense of awkwardness and her gradual realization that her gifts can be appreciated rather than feared are well-written, and this is another warm and exciting adventure from Tamora Pierce.
