Transgender Employment Experiences: Gendered Perceptions and the Law

For law and public policy students, policy makers, and business and human resources professionals, Bender-Baird (National Council for Research on Women) documents the workplace experiences of 20 transgender employees from across the US to provide an understanding of the types of discrimination these employees face and suggest better legal protections. She examines the current legal landscape of employment protections for these individuals in the US and the strategies used to expand them, including disability law and Title VII; details the experiences of discrimination reported by the people she interviewed, in the areas of harassment, termination, job security, income, dress codes, bathrooms, and identity documents; and identifies positive experiences reported by transgendered employees.
