Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Five centuries ago Europeans arrived on the American continent, but they did not listen to the people who had lived for millennia in harmony with this land. Cajete now tells their story of indigenous science as a way of understanding, experiencing, and feeling the natural world.

Book News Annotation:

A Tewa Indian from Santa Clara Pueblo, Cajete (education and cultural studies, U. of New Mexico) introduces readers to the Indigenous view of reality. He delves into storytelling; the philosophy of native science; community ecology; plants, food, medicine, and gardening; animals; a sense of place; astronomy; and how the approach can help the world.
Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Description:

Includes bibliographical references (p. [291]-301) and index.

I am Gwich'in an Alaskan Indian, I also study mathematics and physics. I have been raised in the old ways and I thought this book said everything I believed in my peoples views of the world and universe. I strongly recomend reading this book, wither you native or not. Life is growing and this book will help you grow. Stan
