Publisher Comments:

DAVID A. AGUILAR is the author and illustrator of three books from National Geographic. His 13 Planets: The Latest View of the Solar System (2011), received the Eureka! Nonfiction Children's Book Gold Award from the California Reading Council. His writings are widely recognized for their ability to communicate the wonderment of science to enthusiasts of all ages. He is the past director of the Fiske Planetarium and Science Center and the originator of the Science Discovery program at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and now the popular host of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics Observatory Nights' program. David and his wife Shirley reside near Cambridge, Massachusetts, and part-time at their home and new observatory located outside Aspen, Colorado.

Synopsis:

Are we alone? Or could life on alien worlds really exist? David Aguilar, space artist extraordinaire, shows readers what creatures living on extrasolar planets might be like, using real science and stunning otherworldly illustration.

Just as Earth creatures have adapted to use the air, water, gravity and other elements of Earth, creatures on planets orbiting distant stars would adapt to their environments. In Alien Worlds, David Aguilar explores seven types of alien-friendly worlds and the fun ways the creatures would adapt to the conditions. Accompanied by beautiful photo-realistic artwork, this book will open any kid's eyes to the likelihood that we are not alone.
