“In the gripping #LINK<>##LINK<>#Fire and Ice, Jance showcases both Beaumont and Brady….The prolific #LINK<>##LINK<>#Jance…is in fine form.”

—Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

New York Times bestseller J.A. Jance reunites two of her most popular series characters—Cochise County Sheriff Joanna Brady and Seattle detective J.P. Beaumont—in Fire and Ice, as the separate investigations into grisly homicides in two different states shockingly intertwine. As Jance proved in her previous Beau/Brady pairing, Partner in Crime, when these two join forces, fireworks happen. Fire and Ice is not to be missed.

Synopsis:

As the threads of their two seemingly separate murder cases wind together, Seattle detective J.P. Beaumont and Cochise County, Arizona, Sheriff Joanna Brady must put aside their shared past, as they are once again drawn into an orbit of deception. Available in a tall Premium Edition.

Synopsis:

In Seattle . . . six women have died terrible deaths—wrapped in tarps, doused with gasoline, and set on fire—their charred remains unceremoniously scattered in various dump sites around the city. Investigator J. P. Beaumont is working overtime to unravel a killer's grisly pattern.

In the Arizona desert . . . Sheriff Joanna Brady of Cochise County investigates the cold-blooded slaying of the elderly caretaker of an ATV park, heartlessly run over and left to die—the innocent victim in a brutal turf war . . . or possibly something far more sinister.

Two cases separated by thousands of miles are drawing closer together by the hour—and drawing Beau once more into Brady country. Sparks flew the last time they joined forces. This time, it'll be murder . . .

Synopsis:

Seattle investigator J. P. Beaumont is working a series of murders in which six young women have been wrapped in tarps, doused with gasoline, and set on fire. Their charred remains have been scattered around various dump sites, creating a grisly pattern of death across western Washington.

At the same time, thousands of miles away in the Arizona desert, Cochise County sheriff Joanna Brady is looking into a homicide in which the elderly caretaker of an ATV park was run over and left to die. All the man has left behind is his dog, who is the improbable witness to some kind of turf warfare--or possibly something more sinister.

Then a breakthrough in Beaumont's case leads him directly to the Southwest and into Brady's jurisdiction. When the two met on a joint investigation years earlier, sparks flew. Under different circumstances, both of them admit, even more could have happened.

But here, as the threads of their two seemingly separate cases wind together, Beaumont and Brady must put aside echoes of their shared past as they are once again drawn into an orbit of deception. Except this time it's not just their own lives that are in danger but those of the people closest to them as well.

I found this book not quite up to Jances's usual fare.I prefer detective Beumont on his own.

An engaging introduction to two of Jance's characters, Cochise County, Arizona Sheriff Joanna Brady and Washington state investigator JP Beaumont. The story shifts between Beaumont and Brady's perspectives, complete with shifting from the third person omniscient narrator to the first person narration style Brady uses for Beaumont.

The primary mystery slowly brings Beaumont and Brady's stories together, and does so in a manner that is both not immediately obvious and completely obvious once it's revealed. (This is a neat trick.)

My single complaint is that not all of the stories introduced in Brady's half of the novel find completion to the degree that the primary story does, while Beaumont's story is much more contained to the single murder mystery that he is chasing. This results in a novel that feels lopsided and incomplete at the end - and with little indication of where the answers, if any, can be found.

Love all of J A Jance's books and this one is included. Her characters become your friends; so you keep reading to see what they are involved in. I look forward to her books as they come out and read them as soon and quickly as possible.
